EWG TEACHER RECEIVES GOLDEN APPLE AWARD

EWG has just added another teacher to add to our list of winners of the Golden Apple Award. Mrs. Lisa Borges, the Junior High School technology teacher, was the latest recipient of the award for the month of January.

The Golden Apple Award honors those who believe in the true spirit of teaching by making classrooms a creative and safe place to learn. There are new winners each month, all nominated by fellow teachers or students. NBC 10 and RI Department of Education (RIDE) work together to pull off these awards, and there are winners dating back to February 2014 on Channel 10’s website. The past winners are cited for different positive traits, such as dedication, positive attitudes, and a willingness to help students through hard times.

“I am honored to have been recognized. Every teacher should get an opportunity to feel like a celebrity for five minutes in their career because it’s really wonderful. I love what I do and the kids that I work with. It’s hard to be a middle school teacher unless you love this age group. They are very unique individuals going through probably the most challenging point in their lives.”

Mrs. Borges

According to Channel 10’s website, Mrs. Borges is EWG’s 5th teacher to be nominated since 2016. Mrs. Borges was nominated because of her willingness to help students and put a stop to any form of bullying. She helps students whenever they do not understand a topic and makes her topics enjoyable to learn in the classroom.

“I am honored to have been recognized,” she said. “Every teacher should get an opportunity to feel like a celebrity for five minutes in their career.”

Although Mrs. Borges acknowledged the challenges of educating young adolescent children, she still loves her work. “I love what I do and the kids that I work with,” she said. “It’s hard to be a middle school teacher unless you love this age group. They are very unique individuals going through probably the most challenging point in their lives.”
