The Mercury Gets a Fresh Start

After some time away, the Exeter-West Greenwich Mercury news publication is about to get a reboot. Now in an all-digital news blog format, The Mercury will be providing coverage of EWG’s upcoming Summer Enrichment program, authored entirely by EWG students.

Beginning in late June and running throughout the month of July, EWG’s Summer Enrichment will feature several classes designed both to appeal to student interests and to help students to recover from learning gaps brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Six separate classes comprise the program. Explore New England (July 19-29) will take students on field trips across the state and culminate by having them create a tourism marketing campaign. A Mock Trial program (July 6-15) will introduce students to the Criminal Justice system. College: Ready, Set, Go! (July 12-15) will tour several local colleges and walk students through the college application process. Bones & Stones: Art & Archaeology (June 29 and July 1) will introduce students to archaeology and allow them to take part in a simulated dig while introducing them to EWG’s clay studio and fire lab. Culinary Tour of Italy (July 6-8) will introduce students to some new kitchen techniques. All the above will be covered by EWG students participating in Journalism in Action, beginning June 28.

Coverage will consist of student audio interviews, photos, and blurbs. Bookmark this page and visit often for continuing coverage of EWG’s Summer Enrichment.
