EWG to Host 2nd Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Event
Come out and support the fight against cancer this Saturday, October 14th!
On Saturday, October 14th, EWG is hosting its second annual “Coaches vs. Cancer Cross Country Classic.” The event will take place at the Senior High track from 8:30am-1:30pm, and aims to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Just a few years ago, Mr. Mastroianni, a teacher here at EWG, received life-changing news: he had cancer. After being hospitalized for quite some time, Mr. Mastroianni decided he needed to take a step back and retire. However, even in retirement, his fight against cancer goes on, and so do his contributions to EWG. Most recent was his creation of the annual Coaches vs. Cancer event last year. The event brings together cross-country teams in order to bring about awareness of the illness, and to raise money to combat it.

This year, cross-country teams from across the state (including teams from Narragansett, Prout, and more) will be participating. During the event, there will be an open race session in which anyone in the community can walk or run for the cause, as well as competitive races between the cross-country teams. This year’s races are dedicated to a Narragansett teacher who passed away just a few months ago from pancreatic cancer.
Those wishing to support the cause are encouraged to attend, and can donate to, or register for, the event here. Anyone wishing to broaden their impact by volunteering for the American Cancer Society can find out more here.
