PLT Profile: Knight and Day coffee program

Knight and Day Coffee Cafe

Knight and Day Coffee Program is a program being run by EWGHS that focuses on teaching life skills to learning-disabled students and giving them real-world experience by having them partake in activities such as cooking, cleaning and laundry.

One specific activity that students do is making and delivering orders for teachers and their classes. The students create the contents of the orders (which usually consist of food), organize and package the orders, and then deliver them to their corresponding classroom under the supervision of a teacher.

It’s pretty amazing. We do lots of activities that you’ll be able to use in real life, and that’s what makes it special.”

Mrs. Spaulding

All academics are taught as well: science, math, language arts, and history. The main goal is to prepare students for everyday life and make learning these skills accessible and fun.

“Knight” and Day Cafe order form. Teachers can order coffee and baked goods from Life Skills students every Thursday during Knight Time.

“It’s pretty amazing,” Mrs. Spaulding commented. “We do lots of activities that you’ll be able to use in real life, and that’s what makes it special.” When asked what she enjoys most about Coffee Cafe, Mrs. Spaulding replied, “Everything. It’s always different. There’s something new that you walk into everyday, which is what makes it so fun.” The students there enjoy the program immensely and praise the teachers and everything they’ve learned.

This program runs every Thursday during Knight Time. Students can get involved and help by signing up for the Peer Pals PLT.
