EWG Places in Top Ten

EWG Senior High has once again made the top 10 list of the best high schools in Rhode Island!

The US News and World Report comprises an annual list of the best high schools throughout the country, broken down by each state. Each high school is evaluated based on several categories each of which makes up a percentage of the school’s score. A school’s score is then matched up against other schools to make up the overall score for a high school. The categories are Reading and Math Proficiency in state assessments (20%), Reading and Math Performance in state assessments (20%), College Curriculum Breadth (10%), and Graduation Rates (10%). College Readiness (30%), which evaluates AP course participation and International Baccalaureate exams, as well as Underserved Student Performance (10%), which takes into account the performance of students who are Black, Hispanic, or from a low-income family, are also taken into account. Science proficiency and science performance were also factored in for schools who had science testing data.

“It doesn’t just happen. Our staff works very hard to prepare our students and the students take their learning seriously and try their best in all areas. We have been consistently in the top ten and we could not be prouder. Families, taxpayers, and the entire EWG community supports education and we take great pride in demonstrating year after year that we appreciate their investment in the education of the students of EWG.”

Mrs. Chandler, EWG Sr High Principal

EWG Senior High was put up against 61 other schools in the state and was ranked highly in several categories. Not only did EWG Sr High place 10th overall in the state but also placed 7th in State Assessment proficiency. EWG also fared well nationally as far as State Assessment proficiency and ranked 1,821st out of 17,843 high schools across the country. Additionally, EWG Sr High received an 87 percent overall score.

Between being one of the top 10 high schools in the state, and receiving an overall score of an 87%, EWG has once again demonstrated its worth, and exhibited all the hard work of both students and faculty. Mrs. Chandler commented on all the hard work it took to achieve EWG’s ranking, saying, “It doesn’t just happen. Our staff works very hard to prepare our students and the students take their learning seriously and try their best in all areas.” Mrs, Chandler also went on to express the gratitude of EWG Sr High out to the community saying, “Families, taxpayers, and the entire EWG community supports education and we take great pride in demonstrating year after year that we appreciate their investment in the education of the students of EWG.”

Overall, the rankings of EWG at both the state and national levels show just how unique the EWG community is. As Mrs. Chandler said best, “We have been consistently in the top ten and we could not be prouder.”
