exam Week is Coming

After a two-year hiatus, final exams are back. Most students at EWG have either not had exams or have had only one. This week can seem daunting, but as a senior, I am here to help you through this process to lessen your stress.

For Freshmen and Sophomores, this is the first year they will experience exam week. Some may not even know what the week of exams entails.

Our teachers are telling us that it’s more of just a test of everything and it’s not as scary. It’s like a soup of everything we’ve learned.

The most important part leading up to your actual exam is studying. Most teachers will give out study guides and help you, but it is up to you to fully prepare. Beginning studying a week before exams is a good way to space out your study material, so you’re not cramming everything at the last minute. I would suggest studying for your hardest exam first to have more time and then go down the list from there. Using tools like Quizlet, flashcards, notes, and other materials you have gained throughout the semester, you can look over everything for each course so you can go into your exam feeling confident.

“Study before you go to bed because it helps you to remember things better.”

Senior Megan Ruggieri on studying for exams

The week of exams is the key time you should be sleeping well, eating enough, and letting your brain rest before you go into class. Going into your exam tired and groggy is a huge no-no; make sure that you get at least eight hours of sleep and wake up feeling rested. It is also important to eat a good breakfast before the day, that way hunger doesn’t distract you while taking your exam. Each day after exams is a good time to do more studying, but don’t stay up and study until 3 am.

“Go out with your friends or do something fun sometime around exams to give yourself a mental break. Make sure you’re well rested and de-stress for exams as long as it doesn’t interfere with study and exam times.

Senior Kelly MacKay on de-stressing before exams

Our week of finals is from January 24th to the 26th, finishing off the week starting our new semester on Thursday. Each day, students will have two different exams. The first exam will start at 7:22 and the second will start at 9:15. The school day ends early at 11:00 and students are given the option to leave after exams or stay in the library to wait for buses at the normal end of the day. For the full schedule of each exam day, check out the image at the bottom of the article.

“Just take it class by class because it can get overwhelming”

Senior Kat Parascandolo on preparing for exams

The week of finals can be stressful, but preparing ahead of time and sticking to a schedule will get you through. Start studying and good luck with your exams!
